Two things I wanted more of this year:
Consistent journaling AKA get shit out of my head
Do more hands-on stuff. MORE time outside. More making or building things with my hands instead of just thumbs.
My issue with journaling has been consistency and self-imposed rules. Likely disguised as perfectionism and resistance to things that are good for me.
That’s probably another post.
At the beginning of the year, I thought “how can I make this more fun? More playful? How can I make myself more likely to do it?”
Color. Texture. Playfulness. Shapes. Doodles. No more rules.
I saw some collages on Pinterest and was like "ooh, I like this.”
They were probably digital but if you refer back to point two, we are going hands-on here.
I found my scissors.
Bought a jumbo-size glue stick.
Scrolled Pinterest for a while.
I saved quotes that were inspiring me in the moment.
Things I liked, wanted to wear, or buy.
Goals, experiences, or feelings I wanted to manifest in my life.
Photos from recent life.
Oh, and I decided to take a Polaroid selfie every month for the year to see if there is a difference.
Alright, I gathered all the things.
Now it’s arts and crafts time.
I cut it all out.
I laid it all out and then messed it all up. Then laid it all out again until I liked it.
Time to get sticky.
I glued it all down and let it dry.
I. love. it.
It’s one of my favorite things I’ve done this year.
It makes me feel like a kid. It’s just for me. It makes me laugh.
I get to use my hands and a glue stick. Something about using a glue stick. I don’t know what it is but I like it. We should do it more often.
It’s a monthly snapshot.
Equal parts fun + desire + motivation + real life + possibility
Check em’ out.
I’m curious, when was the last time you made a collage?
Would you make a digital one or a paper one?
Most importantly, what are your thoughts on glue sticks?
Drop a comment, or restack and share your thoughts!
I can still smell the glue from a jumbo glue stick that I would use to do crafts when I was younger. It was so fun! I definitely like the purple ones. They didn’t break off in big chunks like some of the clear ones did. That was annoying because then you had to remove the sticky glue chunk off your art with your fingers. Or, maybe it was fun because you got to hold a big chunk of glue in your hand, and take in the cool texture. Who knows! Both seem right.
