Have You Ever Noticed The Trees?
poetry rambles

Have you ever noticed the trees?
I mean, really, noticed the trees
There are the ones that seem to grow perfectly symmetrical
Grab your measuring tape, and measure it
She would be exactly the same on all sides
She’s a type A perfectionist bitch without even trying for sure
Then there’s the ones that refuse to let any obstacles stop them
Rocks?
Other trees?
Power Lines?
Buildings?
They just keep going
Over, under, around, or through
Obstacles mean nothing when you’re a tree
How about the ones with BTE?
Big Tree Energy, that is
You know those ones who stand tall and strong
Safe, protective, masculine energy oozing out of every pore
You just know they’ve got you
Then there’s the mama trees
They’ve got their curves and their strength
Wisdom and knowledge etched into every vein
She flows around you
Pulls you in for the best hug of your entire life
Then smacks you on the ass and flicks you on the forehead with wisdom
that moves you to your core
If you’re willing to listen
I love the trees that grow sideways out of the side of a cliff or bank
You know there’s nothing surface level about those roots
There’s the skinny ones, like ultra skinny jeans, they just go straight up no matter what
There’s thick ones, the ones you can’t even begin to wrap your arms all the way around
The wavy ones
The ones that twist and turn
The ones that stand alone
Or the ones that cluster together
Some have knobs and knots and jagged edges
Ones that have been struck by lightning or survived wildfires
How about the ones that look like a teenage boy trying to convince you he can grow a beard?
What about the ones that shelter us, provide us shade?
That keep us dry from the rain or provide us fuel
The ones that hold entire worlds with their their arms and their leaves
and their roots
There’s the trees that have seen more life, more shit, more of everything than you can possibly even imagine without so much as a quiver
They hold it all and stand strong
The unshakeable trees
The ones at the end of their years
The ones that are almost ugly, but still undeniably beautiful
The thing about the trees is that
I’m not really sure they decide to be any which way
They simply exist
They simply grow
They find their twists and turns as they need to
They go over, under, around or through as they need to
They stand strong
They flourish
No matter how they look
Whether thick or thick, twisted or straight
They live
Have you ever noticed the trees?

This is so beautiful. Your observations and metaphors comparing trees and humans are so fun!! Thank you for this poem
